School of Arts and Humanities Night of Research and Creative Activities

The School of Arts and Humanities invites all to join an in-person celebration of the research and creative excellence from our school. Faculty and student representatives from all six departments in the school as well as the Institute of Arts and Humanities will be featured, highlighting a breadth of activity that ranges from individual research to collaborative activities and broad-based community partnerships.

The event will include both a formal program as well as an open house showcase of select participants. Located throughout the lobby and courtyard of the Arts and Humanities Building — as well as the nearby Suraj Israni Center for Cinematic Arts — the entire community is welcome to this free, casual evening honoring UC San Diego School of Arts and Humanities research and creative activities.

 

2025 Night of Research and Creative Activities

    • Arts and Humanities Building lobby, courtyard and adjacent Climate Action Lab
    • Special screenings: Suraj Israni Center for Cinematic Arts
  • Date: Friday, Nov. 21, 2025
  • Time:
    • Open house opens: 4 p.m.
    • Formal program: 5 - 6:30 p.m.
    • Suraj Israni Center screenings: 6:45-7:30 p.m.
    • Event end: 8 p.m.

Free and open to all. Light refreshments will be served.

Open House Showcase

In addition to the formal program, the lobby and courtyard of the Arts and Humanities Building will include a wide showcase of individual and group research and creative activities. Current stations include:

  • An interactive map demonstrating the school's global reach
  • A published book station with recent and seminal faculty publications
  • A photography class exhibition curated by Paul Mpagi Sepuya and a current PATH cohort exibition
  • A sound hologram speaker array demonstration by Bobby McElver
  • An audio broadcast of recorded music from faculty and students
  • An art installation from Visual Arts faculty
  • And much more!

We welcome particpation from faculty, graduate students and undergraduate students in the School of Arts and Humanities. If you'd like to showcase your work in an informal, open-house format, let us know.

Event details

The Arts and Humanities Night of Research and Creative Activities is a key project within the Research and Creative Activities program of the school, and is directly related to the Arts and Humanities overarching equity, diversity and inclusion strategy. Goals for the event are to highlight and build awareness of our research and creative activities excellence, cultivate climate and visibility for our school and the university, and build understanding and access to grant-seeking tools.


  • Location:
    • UC San Diego campus, in the North Torrey Pines Living and Learning Neighborhood (near Sixth College).
    • Venues:
      • Arts and Humanities Building main lobby and central courtyard
      • Climate Action Lab (adjacent to courtyard)
      • Suraj Israni Center for Cinematic Arts (Mosaic 113)
    • Located next to The Jeannie auditorium and near the Craft Center, the Arts and Humanities Building courtyard faces the central grassy quad

Organizing, planning and staffing for the event is provided by the School of Arts and Humanities Dean’s Office, with funding support from a staff mobiliy grant from Erasmus+.
